Who We Are

The George W. South Memorial Church of the Advocate is an Open and Affirming Fellowship that fights for the dignity of all people.
For over fifty years, the Episcopal congregation of George W. South Memorial Church of the Advocate has been a driving force in the fight for social harmony and economic fairness in their neighborhood and beyond. They assist the area's homeless and working poor by providing meals and other services.
The after-school programs are a collaboration between local organizations such as ArtWell and Mighty Writers, as well as global organizations such as Arts for All, as well as neighborhood coaches who volunteer their time and the schools themselves. The Advocate Center for Culture and Education runs the program, which includes meals, academics, art, theater, and athletics. There is a summer camp in the region for children and teenagers. All of the programs are governed by a "code of conduct" that requires tolerance and a focus on peaceful conflict resolution.
